The city of Paisley is best known for one thing - it's down-home, country-style Mosquito Festival. The Mosquito Festival is the only event other than city council meetings listed on the city's Website. But this weekend, Paisley plays host to a new event, the Coyote Festival, a three-day celebration of music and environmental sustainability.

The Coyote Festival is a summer solstice celebration held at Summer Lake Hot Springs. The event provides workshops on everything from drumming and yoga to lectures on solar and biodiesel power, recycling and alternative building products. There's also a film series by the Bioneers, a national environmental group, and a showing of two films by environmental videographers.

Among those performing will be Taarka, Moon Mountain Ramblers, Organik Time Machine, The JJ Band, Leif James, The Sweet Harlots, Julie Southwell, Mosley Wotta, Tyler Spencer and others, including several members of local group Coyo who helped engineer the festival.

What started out as an idea to play music in a great location quickly grew into a full-fledged festival as more people heard about the event and wanted to participate. The Coyote Festival will also feature music, food and craft vendors, camping, camp fires, drum circles and access to hot springs. All of the festivities are happening less than five miles away from the site where archeologists discovered the remains of the oldest living human on the North American continent. Sounds better than celebrating the infestation of winged instruments of torture to us. - Shelby Harwood
