Chicks with Picks proves girls can rock, too.

A glance at Central Oregon's local music landscape might give you the impression that men dominate the scene. Well, if you think that, you're kind of sexist. Sorry, but it's true.

In fact, there is plenty of female musical prowess to be found in the greater Bend area and now there's a full night of music to feature this talent. This show, dubbed "Chicks With Picks," is a benefit for Saving Grace, the local non-profit that provides services for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, and features a diverse musical scope of the female talent we have here.

Shireen Amini, the multi-genre singer-songwriter known for her collaborations with several area acts, is bringing her own band to this show for what's sure to be a lively set. On the more rocking front, there's the Sofa Kings, fronted by the powerful pipes of Stephanie Slade, an act that can easily go from punk to soulful ballads without missing a beat. Another relatively new act on the slate is Broken Down Guitars, a jam rock band with some nice songwriting chops and strong vocals from Stacie Johnson and Jamie Houghton. Then, there's Royal Fiasco, a soulful and certifiably danceable act, of course with female vocals

But before the night ends, organizers promise a super jam of sorts, bringing onto the stage a collection of players from the different bands on the bill for an all-female collaboration. Regardless of the gender of its players, this is a solid mini-festival of sorts, so check it out... that means you too, guys.
