Hot Buttered Rum

Your first December dose of progressive bluegrass, Hot Buttered Rum, returns to the Belfry with twang-laden country-bluegrass arrangements strapped with wholesome three-part harmonies. The band are the kinds of dudes you want to crack a beer with, kick back, and maybe even add a fourth part to those hedonistic harmonies. 8 pm. Thurs., Dec. 4. The Belfry, 302 E. Main St. $16.

Zion I

Baba Zumbi and Amp Live, the hip-hop duo that goes by Zion I out of Oakland, Calif., have a backlog of nine studio albums in addition to countless collaborations, EPs and guest appearances. It’s no wonder, with brain-bending beats and two unique spitting styles that set the pair apart from their California hip-hop cohorts. Their playful collaborations range from silly to serious, racy to reflective. Joined live by Marcus Cain & Chandler P. Hosted by Jay Tablet & DJ Harlo. 9 pm. Sat., Dec. 6. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave. $17.

Jive Coulis

Southern Oregon rock group Jive Coulis is a tie-dye shirt, bandana-wearing whirlwind of guitar reverb and head banging. Brought to you by the heavy ’70s classic rock guitar licks borne out of the loins of Black Sabbath and the jagged breakdowns of Rage Against the Machine. 7 pm. Wed., Dec. 10. McMenamins, 700 NW Bond St. Free.
