A Family Affair: Tango Alpha Tango at McMenamins Wednesday

Tango Alpha TangoTango Alpha Tango sound like Tallest Man on Earth and The Pixies teamed up to write a blues-style soundtrack for an independent documentary about strip clubs. All doused with a good helping of North West indie music styling, their songs range from the straight heavy blues rock on “Kill and Haight” to soft acoustic breakup jams like “I Have Stopped Thinking About You."

Despite their range of style, there is nothing inauthentic about Tango Alpha Tango, they know what they’re doing and they’re doing it well from crooning pop melodies to firing off sexy, distortion coated guitar riffs. The finesse of their songwriting is a testament to the musical expertise of brothers, Aaron and Nathan Trueb, and Nathan's wife, Mirabai, teamed up with unrelated drummer Walker Beckman. Their powers combined, Tango Alpha Tango write songs to be admired and put on one hell of a live show.

Their two albums (released in 2008 and 2011) are both under 10 songs, but what they lack in length they make up for in quality. Over the course of their recordings you can hear the music develop from more conventional indie-pop into a whole new animal, with a country hi-gloss and a bluesy edge tied together by skillful songwriting. The band is currently working on recording their next full length release at Supernatural Studios in Oregon City.
