The official start of the summer season upon us, and the days are open for all types of summer adventures.

Just in case you don't already have your summer stuffed full of activities, we’ve rounded up a whole bunch of activities happening around the area—perfect for anyone wanting to get out in the sun this summer.

Hikes

Riley Ranch Nature Reserve Walks
All Adults
Fee: 10$ ID, 12$ OD/session
Daily: 7-9pm
Sessions: M: 6/25, Tu: 7/24, Th: 8/23

Level 1-Join Parks and Rec for a summer evening stroll at the Riley Ranch Nature Reserve, as the sun lowers in the sky you can expect to see an increase in wildlife sightings and thanks to your guide you’ll leave with a little bit more insight into the nature surrounding you.

Historic Wagon Road Outings

Level 2+- Feel like a part of history with these adventures down sections of the Oregon Trail, once the main option for travel over and through the Cascades and Central Oregon. You’ll visit wagon ruts, pioneer graves and more all while hearing real account of those who traveled these roads long before you. There is a day trip option in August and a longer option in September. Your leader will be Leslie Olson.

Rainbow Seeker Hikes
Ages: 50 & up
Fee: $36 ID, $43 OD/session

Level 2- A time to be social and hike leisurely along easy to moderate trails. Hikes will range from 4 to 6 miles. You’ll meet at The Pavilion and will be led by Dean Dobbs.

Level 2+ - 3 If you’re looking for a bit more of a challenge, Leslie Oslon will lead through some longer and higher elevation adventures. Hikes are usually around 6-10 miles through scenic Central Oregon, with good company all while getting your weekly dose of exercise.

Tumalo Creek Kayak and Canoe

Learn the basics of flatwater, paddling and safety skills while getting familiar with the different types of kayaks and paddle gear. You’ll be able to go from land to water with knowledge that will keep you safe and ensure you have fun on your summer adventures.

Full Immersion Whitewater Kayak

A two and a half-day intro to the sport of whitewater kayaking that covers all the safety essentials you need to stay safe while challenging yourself to get a bit adventurous.

This is the crash course to SUP for anyone feeling slightly intimidated by the popular summer activity. You’ll be taught all the basic safety and skills you need to get paddling this summer.

Half-Day Deschutes River Tour
Ages 14 & up

A relaxing tour through the untouched heart of the Deschutes National Forest, a mini adventure for all ages. See ancient lava flows, aspen groves and calm lagoon all on kayak, canoe or paddle board.

Upper Deschutes River Tour
Ages: 14 & up
Fee: $105 ID, $126 OD/ session

A great adventure for families looking for something off the beaten path, paddle 9 miles along the Upper Deschutes’ serene and beautiful landscape. Keep an eye out for deer, elk, bald eagles, otters and more on this day trip.

A fun program that highlights the safety in and emphasizes the basic skills of practicing archery. No experience is necessary, everyone is welome.

You’ll combine a morning of archery with an afternoon of trail bike riding. Two fun sports in one day and all the equipment is provided.

Riley Ranch Art Roundup

Explore Bend’s newest nature reserve with a morning full of hiking at the Riley Ranch Nature Reserve. Then spend the afternoon at the Art Station creating nature inspired arts and crafts.

Spend the day out of the heat, running rapids and swimming in the cool Deschutes River. All experience levels welcome.

Located in the beautiful Shevlin Park, this is a favorite summer camp for kids in Bend, including hiking, biking, swimming, games and nature exploration. Family BBQ potlucks happen Wednesday evenings starting at 6pm and the kids stay for an overnight in the tipis located in the park.

The whole family can come enjoy some fun outdoor water play. Bring a picnic and the kids and play in the outdoor pool full with slides, tumble buckets and splash pads.
