No one finds out about new music in a vacuum. Emails from publicists, services like Spotify and Pandora and indie music bloggers are all a part of the music discovery equation.

Two music bloggers—whom we’ve talked about before—with especially adept ears for digging up musical treasures are Emily Poncetta who runs Let Your Ears Decide down in Santa Barbara and Michael Senchuk, who brings a wealth of historical music knowledge to bear when suggesting tunes on his blog New Music Michael, which he runs out of Edmonton Alberta.

This weeks’ Friday Mixtape takes a look at what the pair have been listening to lately.

From Poncetta synth, power pop ballads are represented quite nicely by the likes of new hits from Paperwhite and Noosa on her Spotify playlist where she keeps track of new releases. There she also rightly points out the notable return of Jenny Lewis and the song “She’s Not Me” from her long awaited new album The Voyager.

On his blog, Senchuk gives us artsy psych rock from Dark Bells as well as rugged shoegaze from wtchs and their song “Young Girls.” On Senchuk’s radar for a highly anticipated album is the return of Toronto’s The Rural Alberta Advantage and the fast-paced acoustic indie rock track “Terrified” off their soon-to-be-released third studio album.

For more, follow these two on Twitter at @newmusicmichael and @_emiLYED, both are worthy sources for tracking down new favorite albums.
