In what police suspect was a targeted event, a late-night home invasion turned fatal in the gated Awbrey Glen golf community on Bend’s northwest side on March 12.

Zachary Dale Zamzow Douglas, 36 and a Bend resident, allegedly tried to break into the home on the 3500 block of NW Braid Drive around 11:45 pm.

That’s when a resident, who was home, reported the break-in to 911. The resident, who has not yet been identified, struggled with Douglas, who then fell from the home’s balcony and fled on foot.

Responding police officers searched the area. They found Douglas lying in links owned by Awbrey Glen Golf Club with life-threatening injuries. Police administered emergency medical care, but Douglas died at the scene, according to Bend PD.

Bend Police detectives are investigating the intent of the invasion and whether the two parties knew each other. Detectives have yet to receive autopsy results. No firearms were involved, says Bend PD Communications Manager Sheila Miller, adding that details about any weapons or burglary tools found on Douglas are not available, owing to the open investigation.

Bend Fire and Rescue transported the resident with non-life threatening to St. Charles Bend, where the victim was treated and released.

According to court records, Douglas pled guilty to driving while intoxicated in July 2015. Later in October of that year, charges of speeding and criminal driving while suspended were dismissed.

Homes in Awbrey Glen, which nestle an 18-hole golf course, are often priced above $1 million, according to listings on Zillow.

  1. Zach was not a thief. The narrative is diplorable his bills were paid till June. I also think you should take his picture down if you want to call him a burglar.
