Mt. Bachelor Announces New Lift to Open December 2016

"Mt. Bachelor and Powdr Corp are excited to announce that we have signed a contract with lift manufacturer Doppelmayer to install the new east side chairlift, named Cloudchaser, in time for the 2016 holiday season! The high-speed detachable quad chairlift, which represents a capital investment of approximately $6 million, provides greater protection from the elements during storm cycles and adds 635 acres to our lift served terrain, making us the 5th largest ski area in the United States.

This is an exciting milestone for the entire team here at Mt. Bachelor. Powdr's investment in this lift underscores a commitment to Mt. Bachelor and provides a whole new way for us all to enjoy our favorite mountain.

Tom Lomax, director of mountain operations, came up with the name Cloudchaser based on its location and the unique weather phenomenon our mountain creates when approaching clouds from the west tend to dissipate and disappear altogether as they wrap around the summit passing by to the east side. Cloudchaser is the the first chairlift to be installed since Pine Marten was replaced in 2006, and the first completely new chairlift providing access to previously unserved terrain on the mountain since the opening of Northwest Express in 1996.

To commemorate this milestone, we invite you to come celebrate Cloudchaser with us from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. We will offer free skiing, live entertainment, food and beverage specials, and other activities. Grab your family, friends and neighbors because this is going to be a celebration for the books! Additional details on the Cloudchaser Celebration will be available soon on our website.

Cheers to the future of our beautiful mountain!

Sincerely,

John McLeod
Interim General Manager
