Portland Mayor Lauds Occupy Bend

Mayor Sam Adams points to Occupy Bend as an example for Portland's next step.

On this morning's Think Out Loud on OPB, Portland Mayor Sam Adams was on the program to discuss the next steps for the Occupy Portland movement, which has come under fire for drug and alcohol abuse, among other problems, in recent days.

Adams recently sent an open letter to Occupy Portland, but took questions from Think Out Loud about how the city will deal with the next phase -- whatever it may be -- of Occupy Portland. During that discussion, Adams pointed to Occupy Bend as a good example of how a camp can be removed after a given time limit and transition into another format.

His point makes sense...but only to a degree. First off, the Occupy Portland encampment is an actual occupation whereas the Occupy Bend camp had a two-week limit on it from the very beginning. Also, it goes without saying that Portland has a much different political environment than Bend and has a much larger population.
