Oregon Senator Ron Wyden has called on all Presidential candidates to release their tax returns for public scrutiny by introducing legislation to require disclosure of tax returns.ย

“Since the days of Watergate, the American peopleย have had an expectation thatย nominees to be the leader of the free worldย not hide their finances and personal tax returns,โ€ said Wyden.

Wyden’s Presidential Tax Transparency Act saysย
that within 15 days of becoming the nominee at the party convention, theย candidate must release their most recent 3 years of tax returns to the Federalย Election Commission (FEC).ย Should theย candidate refuse to comply, the Treasury Secretary will provide the tax returnsย directly to the FEC for public release.

โ€œTax returns deliver honest answers to key questions fromย the American public,โ€ said Wyden. โ€œDoย you even pay taxes? Do you give to charity?ย  Are you abusing tax loopholesย at the expense of middle class families? Are you keeping your moneyย offshore?ย  People have a right to know.โ€
