This one is too funny to pass up.

Carla Axtman, one of Blue Oregonโ€™s contributors, has posted on her Facebook page a photo of a phony lawn sign that she says is appearing around Lake Oswego. The sign has the word DUDLEY above a green silhouette of a state, with โ€œFor Governorโ€ printed beneath it.

The zinger: The state pictured is Washington, and at the bottom of the sign are the words โ€œRepresentation Avoiding Taxationโ€ โ€“ a dig at Republican governor candidate Chris Dudley for having lived in Washington for a time to reduce his Oregon income taxes when he played for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Alan Tresidder, a Portland political consultant and lobbyist, says itโ€™s a โ€œdirty trickโ€ and he doesnโ€™t like it: โ€œIn a race as close as this one. And, trust me it is close โ€ฆ any dirty trick (funny or not) should not happen.โ€

My response: Itโ€™s โ€œnot a โ€˜dirty trickโ€™ in the category of spreading a lie about a candidate; it’s more of a joke.โ€

Whatโ€™s your take on this burning issue? Is the sign a low-down dirty trick, or just good clean political fun?

  3. Leave it to the good folks in Lake-No-Negro to come up with some cutesy little thing like that. I’m surprised they’re not fer Chris Dudley. He’s the only candidate that has a chance in hell of saving them a little bit of their precious coin.

  4. Not surprised by this behavior—fortunately few people will really care—a unique idea—play truly fairly and may the best(?) canidate win. Oh–sidebar—after living many many years and contributing heartly to the states coffers I too am starting to wonder if there is a way to avoid taxes—!

  5. you interject race into a campaign between two white guys??!! your hacking on lake oswego for not having affirmative action in its housing? and your doing it from central/eastern oregon, one of the least diverse areas of the country?? you’re not one of those colorblind tea partiers we been hearing so much about are you?

  6. Nice set-up HMB. IMHO, the left ought to go to any means to make Dud’s look bad. Thay don’t have much else to go with.
