The Troy Field public hearing has been changed for a third time. Communications Director Justin Finestone said in an email that the hearing date was changed again because the City received several public comments asking for an afternoon hearing so that people interested wouldn’t have to miss work. Finestone said the hearing will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at the Deschutes Services Building, which will accommodate more people than the City Council chambers.ย

  1. Remember, the hearing location is not on Wall Street–that is the mailing address, or whatever. The true location is at the corner of NW Hill and Lafayette. Hope to see a big crowd: Troy Field is not ‘surplus property,’ but is a vibrant and valuable community space (and has been for a century), as several of us will show at the hearing. The School District, of course, needs money for a new high school, but 62% of the public (including myself) voted FOR the $98 million School bond measure in May 2013. And there is no reason why the School District would not be similarly rewarded in a future election for a new school. No need to hold fire sales of valuable public land; no need to sell off the crown jewels of the community for a paltry sum that wouldn’t even pay for the parking lot of a new school.
If you can’t attend the hearing in person, please submit written comments to abarry@bendoregon.gov. Refer to Project No. PZ-15-0876. Please cc your comment to the 7 Bend City Councilors at councilall@bendoregon.gov. Regardless of the outcome of the hearing, the City Council will be making the final decision on the fate of Troy Field sometime in Jan. or Feb.
