LGBTQ: U.S. District Court Judge John G. Heyburn II ruled thatย same-sex couples in Kentucky have a constitutional right to marry.ย His ruling, however, is stayed pending a decision from the ย Cincinnati-based appeals court on gay-marriage cases from Kentucky and three other states. Oral arguments in those cases are scheduled to begin in early August. There are now 20 states that recognize same-sex marriage rights. (The Courier-Journal)
JOB SECURITY: President Barack Obama yesterday announced a pendingย executive order prohibiting workplace discrimination by federal contractors on the basis of gender identityย He had previously issued an order prohibiting sexual orientation-based discrimination. The order had long been requested by advocates of workplace equality since the federal Employment Non-Doscrimination Act (ENDA) continues to stall. (The Advocate)
WEED: A Salem daycare has had its license suspended followingย allegations its employees are lighting up around the kids.ย Manager Charity Araujoย says that while four of the daycare’s employees do have medical marijuana cards, the children are never under the care of someone who is high. (KGW)
