Normally I would consider responding to the content of this “newspaper” as beneath me, because it would only serve to lend legitimacy to the unvarnished bias, circular logic, shrillness, ideological hegemony and pure hatred spewed weekly by this rag.
However, I had to make an exception for your ‘Armed in Oregon’ diatribe, which was only exceptional for being the most pathetic and unimaginative case for gun control I’ve ever read.
Ms. Purcell’s lament of Oregon’s poor showing in the Brady Campaign’s annual scorecard relative to California made me break out in spontaneous laughter.
Take heart Rachel. While we may not have done very well in a non-scientific, policy analysis by a dying organization that has gotten the legislative snot beaten out of it over the past 10 years, we still best California in several important statistical categories, namely: homicides, armed robberies and car jackings.
I don’t posses a CHL, nor had I felt compelled to obtain one, but I probably will now if for no other reason to fully enjoy my constitutionally enshrined individual right to possess a handgun. My advice to you is to move on to another issue. Once again the bright lights of common sense have relegated another liberal policy failure to the dustbin of history.

The editors insipid response to having their collective ass whupped by B. Rowe and the vast majority of other respondents to that poorly written, poorly thought out, rather pointless left wing elitist hit piece on Constitutionally protected gun rights does cause major chuckle fits to erupt on very short notice.
It’s odd that the left wing college educated, left wing college brainwashed, left wing elitists who control the media in this country, don’t listen to one of their own on this issue. Why these folks, like the editor of this sheet, don’t bother to read Boston U’s legal scholar, Prof. John Lott’s informative book, “More Guns, Less Crime,” is anybodies guess. Presumably, because it flies in the face of the anti-gun nuts brainwashed poorly informed preconceptions.
The facts are, and the relevant statistics prove them beyond any doubt, are that as CHL’s go up, crime goes down. If there were no statistics, mere contemplation of the issue would lead one to the same logical conclusion. If you are a bad guy, would you be more or less likely to mess with someone who might well be armed, or with someone who was very probably not? Common sense indicates that ordinary criminals and left wing anti-gun elitist’s are on the same side when it comes to disarming the general public. Were the anti-gun zealots, like The Source, successful, the happiest people on the planet would be the criminals…
Punishing those that abide by the law is insane…and really freaking stupid beyond belief. It is clear that The Source editorial board doesn’t have a God Damned clue what is the true nature of criminal mentality and who has it and who doesn’t. Or, they want to disarm the the general public for a more insidious reason…
Not one of these idiots has ever explained what good can come of removing law abiding citizens guns…We are not the ones doing the crime…so, who gains? Duh?
Only a morally bankrupt elitist would hold a position that it is ethically acceptable to hire someone to do that which he will not do for himself…hire police to take the risk and defend him, but not defend himself…

Guns are fine, but are slowly being taken away by the current government as is stated in the Patriot Act. I encourage the neo cons to read that part where they are going to have to surrender their guns eventually and stop b laming the liberals as it was Brady, a neo con that set into motion the gun control laws….not em liberals…..or granola, sprout and tofu eating folks…but the hamms swilling red meat eating, wife beating crowd that suppored the neo cons in this measure.
I am a damn liberal and have guns, a lot of them to protect myself from a hostile government as was intended by the 2nd ammendment. But they are not all assault weapons and I am not sitting in my bunker
I had a chl since it’s inception. Was novel for a time but like most things, Harleys, whitewater, off roading, fossil hunting, and fishing pike minnows, finaly grew boring. But I am a strong supporter of those who wish to pursue those activites.
Well, actually there are far more gun varities available to you than to your dad or grand dad. Pick up any gun catalog and far more pages are dedicated to hand guns and assault rifles than all other types. I bet there are no fewer than 30 different assault rifle manufactures and 10 times that the models they offer.
Knowing some of the local law enforcement officers in this area I will be their advocate and state they are overworked and understaffed. It seems that we in Bend have a priority to give over 1 % of our total budget to builders as welfare to their building projects instead of using that small piece of the pie for a few extra sheriffs and extra Bend PD staff.
If the criminals realize that we are heavily armed as citizens then this for sure deters the scum from certain crimes as they know they may be crawling in a window starring down the barrel or two barrels of a pump or double barrel shotgun or a 44 magnum desert eagle. Every scumbag in the world knows the sound of a pump shot gun being racked and the scumbag knows that the person holding this pump shotgun could be some little old lady like my grandma who is blind as a bat and deaf as a log and the scumbag knows she can point this gun in the general area of where she may think the scum are hiding and pull the trigger and then rack it again…and likely to not have to be some Navy Seal to hit someone.
With the patriot act in place taking our rights away we should all be armed as we are faced with a political system that is run by criminals and I want to be able to protect myself from these criminals. This is as close to New World Order politics as we have ever been where they , the government reserves the right to come in and take our gold, our guns and take us to prison for whatever reason they wish with no right to due process.
