Cary Schneider has been serving as an appointed member of the Bend Park & Recreation District board since last year, when he filled the place left by Zavier Borja. Voters should support Schneider continuing in the work. Having served on the BPRD budget committee prior to his service on the wider board, Schneider has displayed a level of commitment to the job. Among his priorities: managing affordability and being cost-effective with taxpayers’ dollars, addressing aging facilities, adding capacity in classes and trails, improving connectivity between east and west Bend, and looking at the possibility of adding a west-side recreation center to the District’s profile. His opponent, Austin Mazzolini, who served on a park board in College Station, Texas, prior to moving to Bend last year, is bright and brings perspectives that are important to Bend, but in our interview, he didn’t display the depth of knowledge in some of the core issues facing the District, compared to Schneider. Vote Cary Schneider for Bend Metro Park & Recreation District, Position 4.
