Sno Park Follies

A popular sno-park is named after convicted sex offender, Frank Ellis.

Those folks who've had the pleasure of dealing with the Forest Service know that the federal agency is a stickler for public process. In fact, critics would argue that the agency too often suffers from analysis paralysis. That wasn't the case recently, though, when the agency decided to bypass its usual public outreach and quietly rename a popular sno-park in honor of a longtime volunteer groomer and founding member of the Oregon State Snowmobile Association. There's just one problem, by going it alone the Forest Service overlooked the fact that the honoree, Frank Ellis, was also a convicted sex offender who did time behind bars for sexually abusing an underage family member. The agency quickly backtracked this week after it learned of Ellis' crime. But seriously, guys, ever heard of a background check, wtf?
