Hey, why is it that when you ask a cop here in Bend a question he answers in a way such as, 'Well I think that it is because of this!' What is up with that?
Don't they have access to a computer in their squad cars? When I ask a question about something I want to hear, 'Well sir, this is the city ordinance,' or, 'This is this because this is the law in Oregon.'

I have had numerous experiences with the police here in Bend, and quite frankly they suck. Why do they suck? Well I never see them on Skyliners road west of Mt. Washington Drive monitoring those idiots in their pickups blazing along at 80 mph. Is there a speed limit out there? I have asked questions about the bicycle lanes and whether or not it is illegal to park in that lane. Some police say yes and some say no. Well what is it? The City Hall says it is illegal to park in the bicycle lane unless it is a city vehicle or emergency vehicle.

Baja Sur Taco Tour: Dollar tacos south of the border

Editor's note: There is a long tradition of Bendites sneaking south to
Baja California to escape the long Central Oregon winters. With that in
mind, we asked one of our dining correspondents to give us her
impressions of the beach side culinary scene during a recent trip.

tacos and Baja California are synonymous. Right? I found out on a
recent trip to Baja that ordering a little turf with your surf is a
good idea too. Sure, the fish is fresh and lovely. Coming from Bend in
the wintertime, I thought I would eat fish tacos every day of my
vacation. But my quest for fish tacos turned into a delectably edible
educational experience involving both tacos del mar y de la tierra.
On
our first night in San Jose del Cabo, my fiancée and I were greeted by
friends who spend considerable time in the southern Baja town. They
took us out to Las Guacamayas, their favorite taco place. "You like
tacos al pastor?" they asked. As they well knew, if they weren't
already, al pastor would become my new favorite.

Tweakers on the Speakers

Nature boys. Tweak Bird looks like hippie freakers and sound like a jet engine, a
strange combination of traits that is only the edge of the weirdness
emitted by this pair of Los Angeles-based brothers. With a helping hand
from producers Dale Crover (Melvins) and Toshi Kasai (Big Business),
Caleb and Ashton Bird released a quirky steamroller of an EP dubbed
Reservations in September that showcases the duo's ability to produce
an F'in S-load of sound with only drums and guitar.

Where does Blood Bank fit with the frozen fog of For Emma, Forever Ago,
Bon Iver's much-acclaimed debut from last winter? It isn't an
afterthought, or an echo, or B-sides, though some of the songs were
recorded around the same time as For Emma in a little cabin in
Wisconsin during the good winter (French translation: Bon Hiver) after
which the band is named. It has similarities to
the experimental, beautiful mess that Justin Vernon captured in his
wooded solitude, but Blood Bank also feels like a series of postcards -
letting us know that the singer is traveling on, his heartbreak perhaps
slightly dulled.

Return of the Colony: David Bowers says he’s halfway dead, but his music is fully alive

David Bowers is celebrating the release of the David Bowers Colony's
first full-length album on Saturday night. Two days later he turns 44
years old.

"For me that's halfway dead, because, ya know, if I made it to 88 that would be pretty sweet," Bowers says.
He
could pass for younger with just a few wispy gray hairs around his
temples and a bone curled through his left ear lobe (a style he says is
inspired in part by the Decemberists' Chris Funk, an acquaintance from
Bowers' Eugene days) but seems comfortable with his age, as well as his
status in the local music scene.

Hi, I've been gone from Bend for a year and just got back and wanted to say to you blind drivers out there. Will you please pay attention to people in the crosswalks, okay? I have had so many close calls with drivers and do not want to get hit especially over at Brosterhouse (sic) and 3rd Street.
