Fun and Fashionable Gifts for the Night Owl

Jennifer Hornstein

Movers and shakers are on everyone's gift list. The person you can never quite track down because they are just so darn busy! They are always pumping up the next big event and spending every night out on the town. Here are some gift suggestions for your event-loving fashionista/night owl.

Being out on the town without looking like the Michelin man can be a challenge. Set your night owl up with functional and fashionable boots/jackets/etc. There are plenty of downtown boutiques where you can stock up for your haute couture hottie. Cowgirl Cash (924 Brooks St.) offers up reasonably priced vintage Western boots, and just around the corner Clutch (933 NW Wall St.) has gorgeous designer handbags. Faveur (714 Franklin Ave.) is a boutique with a bohemian touch, selling gloves, scarves, boots and more, and the adorable items at Lulu (150 NW Minnesota Ave.) can spice up any outfit. If you're looking for work from local designers, jewelry, clothing and more, Rescue Consignment (910 NW Harriman St.) is stuffed with beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces and accessories and clothing made locally.

541 Threads (112 Minnesota Ave.) sells stylish clothing with the intention of helping the hungry in Central Oregon and globally by donating proceeds from their clothing. That means you get Christmas gifts, and warm fuzzies for helping the less fortunate.

There are plenty of local jewelry makers who can add shiny pieces of flair to a standard ensemble. Nashelle's (661 SW Powerhouse Dr. #1301) beautiful and simplistic creations are a Bend classic. Or try Just a Little Charm (224 Oregon Ave.), a shop that opened in August full of unique charms from rescued copper that maker Jen Aylward salvaged from the old Bulletin building. With fun word stamps, Aylward imprints quotes from storybooks, songs and above-average conversation on the charms ($10-$35).

Outings can be the Night Owl's haven and even if you can't anticipate what excellent shows are coming to town this winter, you can give an excuse to get out and stay out with McMenamins (700 NW Bond St.) reloadable gift cards. The cards can be used for anything on the property at any of the McMenamins locations across the Northwest, in Bend and beyond. That means locally, movies at the cozy couch-filled theater, any of their dozens of in-house brewed beers, delicious food, or fancy cigars from O'Kanes whiskey bar. All of your Night Owl's favorite things.

Oregon's biggest cold weather festival takes place in Bend in February; buy your mover and shaker a ticket to events that will take place at the 2014 WinterFest at bendticket.com. Grab a pass to the Old Mill Wine Walk, which includes a complimentary glass and 10 tasting tickets valid at any of the 12 shops providing wine tastings over the course of the evening (Feb. 13) $22. Something to look forward to.

Winter outdoor outings wouldn't be complete in Bend without some type of boozy treat. A pocket flask to keep the juices (and warmth) flowing makes a great and reusable gift. Cosmic Depot has a wide selection ($20-$28) that can be filled with a favorite beverage. Or if you're looking for something more substantial with that special Oregon flare, check out HydroFlask (find them at many Bend locations and online, hydroflask.com). The 18-ounce wide mouth insulated water bottle is perfect for hot or cold drinks and made locally ($25.99).
