Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Once upon a time Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet) lived happily in love. When their relationship crumbled, Clementine decided to have Joel erased from her memory by way of some seriously crazy technology. When Joel finds out, he begins to have Clementine erased from his, but in the process they discover what they had to begin with. The Michael Gondry-directed film features stunning visuals to break down each memory, especially once Joel decides he doesn't want to lose Clementine and fights against the erasing process.
Perfect for: Couples looking for a do-over or want to renew the hope in their relationship.
500 Days of Summer
Ironically enough, this is not a love story, but it is definitely a romantic comedy. Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel) doesn't believe love exists. She meets Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) while working at a greeting card company and he falls in love with her. The off-beat romantic comedy features a musical number, some of the coolest transitions in film, and a cute scene where Summer and Tom play house at Ikea.
Perfect For: Those still pining after "the one that got away."
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Norah (Kat Dennings) meets Nick (Michael Cera) after his band plays a concert in New York City when she asks him, "Will you be my boyfriend for five minutes?" The two take off on a quest to find the location where their favorite band will be playing a secret show. Nick and Norah encounter douchey exes and stripping nuns, lose Norah's drunk BFF, wreck Nick's crappy car and, in the meantime, fall in love.
Perfect For: Music-loving couples and Michael Cera fans.
No Strings Attached
If you're looking to impress your date by spending the $9.50 each to go to the movies instead of renting or borrowing one, No Strings Attached may be the best bet this Valentine's Day for a great romantic comedy. Emma (Natalie Portman), a medical resident, and aspiring screenwriter Adam (Ashton Kutcher) are old acquaintances who end up in present-day L.A. and form a "friends with benefits" relationship. This hilarious comedy looks at the relationship between sex and friendship.
Perfect For: "Friends with benefits" looking to make the leap into a legit relationship.
