Since I didn’t have a Left Field column in this week’s paper — which will be hitting the web in about two hours and the streets a few hours after that — I need to unload some of the sports idiocy currently boiling my brains.
And there’s no source of idiocy more reliable than Seattle Mariner’s sometimes outfielder/constant embarrassment, Milton Bradley.

Darkside of the Moon + Wizard of Oz = Wild Night at the Tower
Remember when you were 17 and in the basement of some friend’s house late at night when one of your comrades got you hip to the theory that Pink Floyd’s Darkside of the Moon synced up with The Wizard of Oz in ways that could under no circumstances could be mere coincidence? Then, you’d dig up a dusty VHS copy of Oz and a scratched vinyl edition of Darkside and test out this hypothesis.
Of course you remember this — or maybe you don’t.
All That Jazz: A triple-header for local fans
Never has so much live jazz been played in Bend than this past weekend. A total of five gigs at three different venues brought the music to not only longstanding fans and but also to many new audience members.
The weekend started on a high note both in the venue and the music with the Mel Brown Quartet’s appearance at the first of the Jazz at The Oxford series.
Transforming the hotel’s ballroom into a dimly lit, comfortable nightclub setting was nothing short of miraculous. Add in some glorious music by Brown and company you have a special night.
Dawes to Play Silver Moon on Tuesday, January 25
Last summer if you showed up early enough to the Band of Horses show at the Les Schwab Amphitheater you probably caught opening act Dawes. If not, you definitely missed out, but you’ll get your chance next Tuesday. The LA-based band ditched their post-punk beginnings for a soulful indie-Americana sound that has a vintage, folky vibe.
While sorting through my calendar emails this afternoon I saw that Silver Moon booked the rockers to play a week from tonight with opening act Jonny Corndawg from Nashville. Yes, that is a strange name, but his experimental country will make showing up early worth your time.
The Decemberists Release New Album, “The King is Dead,” Today
You may have already heard the first single from the album, “Down by the Water,” but The Decemberists new record is finally out today. And it very well might be one of their best.

Photos from Larry and His Flask’s Saturday Fundraiser
On Saturday night, Larry and His Flask were joined by plenty of their friends on the Silver Moon stage for a show to raise money for LAHF’s Jamin and Jesse Marshall’s father, Rich, who is battling cancer.
Local photographer Kyle Rood was on hand and captured these images for us. (More photos after the jump).
Larry and His Flask Play to Benefit Their Dad Tonight
…Well, he’s not dad to all of the guys in Redmond’s Larry and His Flask, but Richard Marshall is indeed father of the band’s Jamin and Jesse Marshall.
Richard, a hardworking airplane mechanic and ardent supporter of his sons’ band, is battling liver and pancreatic cancer and to help him with the medical costs, the band is playing an almost-all-day show featuring regional and local artists, including Larry and His Flask, of course.
In addition to the sure-to-be rowdy LAHF set, other performers include Robert Dalton, Bethany Taylor, The Dela Project and several others.

Voting for The Lust List Begins Now!
You may think that we’re a bunch of creeps sitting at our desks Facebook-stalking away, but that is not the case at all, at least during business hours. In reality, we just want to know who Central Oregonians think are the sexiest, acknowledging the hottest of the hot in our community.
