I recently had occasion to travel both downtown and to the Old Mill District for a mother-daughter movie date. Our plan to beat the heat was to grab lunch and then duck into an air-conditioned theatre to escape the soaring temperatures.
My daughter and I were appalled to discover that nearly every retailer had thrown open its doors, presumably to entice shoppers inside. At every doorway we were greeted with a blast of cool air, working its way into the 90+ degree outdoors.
Apparently, our local retailers have not received the memo about global warming. Local businesses that choose to air condition need to keep their cool air to themselves – inside. Coal-fired generators are producing the electricity being used to pump cold air into the vast outdoors both downtown and at the Old Mill. This kind of gross consumption is both irresponsible and not sustainable.
Could someone at The Source please re-send the memo on global warming to all of our local retailers?
Thanks!

Someone needs to be reminded that it is no longer called “global warming”. It is now “climate change”. Reason why? No proof that global warming is occuring since global temperatures have been decreasing for the past twn years, and the earth has been much warmer in times past.
Now, since there is to be an energy crunch according to some, and there probably will be if left to the left wing, why is it that enviros are attempting to remove dams from the Snake River, or the Klamath River? Oh yeah, in the case of the Klamath it is to save the snail darter. Doesn’t matter that they are destroying the agriculture economy in Southern Oregon, gotta save those darters. Then too, the native Americans want their land back that they sold to the government. Kind of like how the Mexicans want the land back that was sold to the US by their government.
Then too, it was the left wing that shut down the nuclear power in Oregon, and refuses to allow more to be built, or any other source save for wind, and solar, two boondoggles that will never produce enough for our needs.
Apparently you never received the memo that these retailers are paying their hard earned money to purchase energy for use in their business. How they use that energy is none of your business.
“Then too, the native Americans want their land back that they sold to the government. ”
Not sure how this is pertains to the letter, but just to set the record straight, the Klamath nor the Modoc tribe sold their land to the US.

Sorry Joe, but they did. The last of the “hold outs” for the sale received their payment in 1974.

Now they are seeking to get back 692,000 acres, and claiming they were forced to sell.
