Ruins of Ooah, as those hip to the local music community know, is, well, weird. When I wrote about the band this fall, I outline how the band consists solely of drums, harmonica and the didjeridu work of Tyler Spencer. This doesn’t sound like much, but the trio is able to create an enormous wall of sound with this seemingly scant instrumentation.

Spencer splits his time between Bend and Eugene when he’s not on the road with the band, so this isn’t fully a local act, but local enough to have earned a following here in Bend. The last time Ruins of Ooah played in Bend at the Summit Saloon and Stage, they played some high-energy dance music which included Spencer donning a gas mask/microphone apparatus for some beat boxing.

Ruins of Ooah plays tonight at McMenamins Old St. Francis School (Father Luke’s Room) at 7pm. The show is free and all ages.
