With the velocity at which this photo is making its way around the web this morning, there’s a good chance you’ve already seen it. And if you haven’t, well, you need to, because this shot of a young woman being pepper sprayed by police yesterday in Portland is likely going to be one of the most iconic images of the Occupy Wall Street Movement.

The photo, taken by the Oregonian‘s Randy Rasmussen, was captured yesterday at protests near the JP Morgan Chase Building in downtown Portland. The protests were part of a widespread collection of events called N17 (named after yesterday’s date) that occurred around the country. Several arrests were made in Portland, in addition to other cities, including more than 300 people in New York.

  1. The truly iconic and telling photographs are the ones representing the true nature of these hooligan; breaking windows, setting fires, defacating on police cars, assaulting police officers, resisting arrest and lawful orders. These clowns have had their time, have proven that they are in fact the one percent, and need to move on to the next issue leaving public spaces to those who use them lawfully and respectfully. Besides it will soon be time to prepare for burning man, the rainbow family, Oregon country fair, WTO meeting or something of the like.
