Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Party

Green beer, bagpipes, kilts and shamrocks keep a low profile 364 days a year. Whether you’ve forgotten them or not, the day when it’s ok—nay expected—to do, wear and drink all those things is only six months away and McMenamins can’t wait. Celebrate with food and drink specials and music from Five Pint Mary, Fiddlplay, Moon Mountain Ramblers, Steve Allely. Sat., Sept 13. Noon. McMenamins St. Francis, 700 NW Bond St. Free.

The Lil’ Smokies

The Lil’ Smokies bring poppy and bright melodies and harmonies to traditional string-picking with a fresh young perspective and twang. The winners of last year’s Northwest String Summit Band Competition will melt your heart and the soles of your dancing shoes. Wed., Sept. 17. 7 pm. McMenamins St. Francis, 700 NW Bond St. Free.

Jive Colius

Ashland band Jive Colius drives a veggie-oil powered bus named Sharleena. That says a lot about the group’s organically grooving rock music. The band got its start a decade ago with the sounds of Southern-style arena rock and the northwest winds blowing through their grown-out hair. Also, in case you were wondering, a colius is a fruit or vegetable reduction sauce, and the band takes the same back-to-basics approach to its rock and roll. Fri., Sept. 12. 9 pm. Silver Moon Brewing, 24 NW Greenwood Ave. Free.
