It’s Thursday night, time to start the weekend. Here are some staff picks for your perusal.
The Northwest Best concert series continues tonight with Portlandโs own string band Fruition and the Dead Carpenters. Fruition has been playing inspired up-beat folk-Americana since 2008 packing dance floors and music halls up and down the coast.
The Dead Carpenters are a high energy roots-rock band from Tahoe City touring in support of their album Ainโt It Strange. Listen to Holy Moses, straight-up Americana gold and then head to the show.
Viper jazz, ragtime and country blues are the preferred flavors of the band Woody Pines. Dancing isnโt mandatory but it is strongly encouraged. The free show starts at 7pm at Mcmenamins.
Alt-indie, experimental band Fox & Woman play the Horned Hand. This bi-lingual band from San Francisco plays everything from Portuguese folk songs to Bowie covers encompassing a wide range of genres executed with both style and enthusiasm. Show starts at 8pm.
The Mark Sexton Band mixes soul, funk, rock and reggae into a smooth musical cocktail thatโs easy to drink and leaves you thirsty for more. $5. Show starts at 9pm.
Kermet Apio, winner of the Seattle Comedy Competition and Great American Comedy Festival will be performing at Kayoโs tonight. $10 bucks gets you a beer and a front row seat to one of the Northwestโs best comics.
