Bush v. Gore v. Ahmadinejad
Phones down, Internet cut, BBC's Persia TV jammed; five miles of silent protestors on Monday, followed by shots from supporters and at least seven dead; someone must have drawn a picture of Mohammed - Or stole an election. Tens of thousands had come out on Sunday to support the incumbent president of Iran, Hahmoud Ahmadinejad, who claimed 62% of the vote, even though the counting of some 40 million ballots was officially ended early. According to reports, Ahmadinejad was declared the victor after only five million ballots were officially tallied, ending reformist Mir Hossein Moussavi's bid to unseat Satan. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (the real President of Islamic Iran) has relented and ordered an investigation into whispers of fraud, which will result in subjugation of women, Moussavi's purely accidental death, and more calls for death to Israel.

Salmon Salvation: Will a new political order be enough to finally bring the dams down?

Scott Van Bergen settled onto a bench at the back of U.S. District Judge James Redden's Portland courtroom on a Friday morning in March and waited for the ninth – or perhaps the 29th – round of Pacific Northwest salmon vs. the dams to begin. His high school zoology class had just studied endangered species, and his teacher offered him the opportunity to see where a significant part of the effort to save imperiled creatures takes place – the federal courts.
Van Bergen is a bright Oregon native who aspires to become a marine biologist. He hopes "there will be a movement to bring the river back to where it was naturally," and that healthy runs of wild salmon and steelhead will swim the Columbia and Snake rivers by the time he gets his college degree.

The author has been sent on the road to discover a lost country formerly known as America. He is reporting from a city whose residents believe they have far too many rights, bikers and its mayor especially, astrippers and tattoos secondary - Not Vegas but Portland – on assignment for Or-Bust.com and The Source Weekly.

OLCC: No problems at all, except for this damn town hall meeting
The Oregon Liquor Control Commission may not have chosen the best format for its open gathering Monday afternoon with local liquor licensees, as what was billed as a "town hall" meeting quickly turned into a chance for community leaders, citizens and a sliver of Central Oregon's licensees to tee off on the OLCC and its regional manager.

OLCC Is Out Of Control

I feel bad for all those poor businesses forced to deal with an outdated and apparently over-zealous OLCC. I understand that the OLCC has laws

I feel bad for all those poor businesses forced to deal with an outdated and apparently over-zealous OLCC. I understand that the OLCC has laws to uphold, even if some of them are as archaic as prohibition itself.

Industry Round Up: 10 Barrel Passes on Rising Star

It seems like there’s always something going on with our local
pub/brewing scene. But as you may have noticed it can sometimes be
difficult to separate rumor from fact in this gossip-hungry town. This
past week we chased down one of the juicier rumors that had been
fermenting for several weeks – that new kid on the block 10 Barrel
Brewing was going to take over the lease at the former Rising Star
building to launch a homegrown McMenamins-style pub just south of
downtown. Such a possibility would no doubt be intriguing, alas the
guys over at 10 Barrel said the deal for the Rising Star building is
off the discussion table – and likely for good – for the same reasons
that Rising Star folded, primarily the dismal economic climate.

“We
had a really cool plan, but it’s not exactly the small homey kind of
easy-to-operate place. It’s a little more of a chunk than we felt
comfortable biting off right now,” said Garrett Wales, one of three
partners in 10 Barrel who also serves as the operations manager.

Cross-Dressed and Ready to Go: La Cage Aux Folles brings the circus to CTC

Breast in the WestWith everything from whips cracking to hips popping, the circus has come to town and has jammed itself into the cozy confines

Breast in the WestWith everything from whips cracking to hips popping, the circus has come to town and has jammed itself into the cozy confines of the CTC in the form of a striking production of La Cage Aux Folles.
As I watched the play, the laughter ringing in my ears behind me was the real show; the La Cage Aux Folles isn't shy on the audience participation. We  threw our heads back, clapping and shaking with the music, extreme fun and flamboyance unfolding on the stage.
