Two years from now, it is projected that four out of five “radio” listeners will stream their music through online sites like Spotify or Pandora. Put in more precise numbers: Every six months, Spotify is adding another million paying customers! But while these well-known sites dominate 21st century radio—as, say, ABC, NBC and CBS dominated […]
Ethan Maffey
Both a writer and a fan of vinyl records since age 5, it wasn't until nearly three decades later that Oregon Native Ethan Maffey derived a plan to marry the two passions by writing about music. From blogging on MySpace in 2007 and then Blogspot, to launching his own website, 83Music, and eventually freelancing for publications in the Pacific Northwest, like Spokane’s alt-weekly Inlander, Ethan’s aim has been to provide fans of music alternatives to the mundane and overplayed. This included a nearly two year stint as the music editor for the Source, where he scoured the Bend music scene drawing attention to local talent and notable touring acts as they passed through town. In addition to deep knowledge of the local music scene, Ethan has an uncanny ability to quote lines from the television show “Friends.” He also has an eye for women’s fashion and feels a kinship with Lucky Day, Steve Martin’s character in ¡Three Amigos!

Nope, just since the mid-90s. But ever since 1995, the Sisters […]

Case in point: the sophomore album from Jay Tablet (Jay Tab for short). Tablet is known for an extensive list of collaborations in Bend. Most notably as the duo […]
ISLES album release TONIGHT!
Isles will release their much anticipated debut album tonight.
It’s Our Party
The psychedelic—applied with the strongest sense of the word—pop music of New England duo MGMT is the equivalent of two college guys hopped up on dangerous amounts of liberty caps who stumbled upon a treasure trove of instruments in a stranger’s basement and began making all the noise they could, because—well—why not? Andrew VanWyngarden confirmed […]
For the People, By the People
Ever since the cancellation of last year’s Bend Roots Revival at Century Center, organizers of the arts and music festival have been in problem-solving mode. This spring, that work paid off with the announcement that the popular event would return in 2013 with a serendipitous new venue and a new look in September. Pakit Liquidators […]
