After a busy season of sweet handmade gift making that many of us artists participate in during this time of year, I am often left with the deep desire to make Art (with a capital A) that is not something you can buy. Something you can’t hold in your hand or replicate. One of the […]
Teafly Peterson
For the last 20 years, I have been working as an artist and an educator. Some days I am better at one than the other. The good days are when I am excellent at both simultaneously. I love those days. I teach a variety of mediums– painting, drawing, photography, writing, film making. Mostly what I teach is how to develop your voice honestly, openly and confidently. I like to ask questions. I find it is the best way to get an answer– start with a question. What I teach is how to ask the right questions and how to not be afraid of the answers.
I work professionally as an artist. If you need a bumble bee delivering your tea, I’m the gal for you! You name it, I can probably draw or design it!
See What Aunt Gertrude Drew?!
My artist friends and I often hear from our patrons and admirers things like, “Oh, I’m not creative at all,” or “I wish I was artistic.” The truth is, as artists we spend years developing our crafts and skills. These are hard-earned qualities, ones to which we devote a lot of time in order to […]

He began thinking of all the animal combinations he could: spider monkey, tiger shrimp, catfish and so on. The […]

O n a recent, quiet Monday afternoon, Susan Porteous, a local sculptor, letterpress printer and bookmaker, was busy working at the large shared table at The Workhouse on Scott Street, where her studio is located.
