Making an Issue of Bradbury's MS Is BS

Kari Chisholm of the BlueOregon blog says there’s been speculation about whether Bill Bradbury’s multiple sclerosis will make people question whether he’s capable of handling the demands of the governorship.
“Over the last year, many people have wondered aloud – here on BlueOregon, and in hushed tones in person – whether Bill Bradbury’s health will be an insurmountable obstacle to his gubernatorial ambitions,” Chisholm writes.

A Sweet Deal on the John Day

BLM gains land and 5-mile stretch of the John Day River.

It's a rare thing in human affairs to put together a complicated deal that makes everybody happy. But the Oregon Natural Desert Association, Young Life and the BLM seem to have pulled it off.
Young Life is an organization that runs a non-denominational Christian camp for young people. The camp is located near the remote town of Antelope not far from the John Day River. The site probably is most famous (or notorious) as the former home of the Rajneeshee cult commune.

Northwest's Ghost Flight

WTF?

By now everyone has heard the story of the Northwest Airlines flight that overshot Upfront's hometown by 150 miles. The flight reportedly turned around only after a stewardess alerted pilots that they appeared to have missed their approach to Minneapolis and by that point they were probably closer to Milwaukee than MSP. This week the FAA announced that is was suspending the license of the two pilots, one of whom was from Salem, pending an investigation into the mishap. While people initially speculated that the pair had dozed off at the controls, a new explanation surfaced this week. The pair was reportedly working on a laptop – multitasking if you will.

Small Mistake Could Be a Big Factor in Tax Vote

A minor oversight could turn out to be a major problem for the forces trying to repeal the tax increases passed by the Democrat-controlled legislature last session.
The legislature’s tax measures include an increase in the corporate minimum tax (currently a ridiculous $10, unchanged since 1931) and in the top income tax rates for affluent Oregonians (individuals making over $125,000 a year or households making over $250,000).

While charging through the chaotic weekly nightmare that is the production cycle here at the Source, there was something looming in my mind: “Just think, by Wednesday you’ll be jamming out to The Heavy at the Silver Moon.”
Yeah, about that… I just got off the phone with Cassie Moore, the Booking Manager at the Silver Moon, who said that the show is cancelled.

Video and recap of Poor Man’s Whiskey’s “Dark Side of the Moonshine”

Video and recap from Poor Man’s Whiskey’s performance of “Dark Side of the Moonshine” in Bend, Oregon on 10/24/09.

A good 40 hours removed from Poor Man’s Whiskey’s performance of “Dark Side of the Moon Shine” at the Domino Room Saturday night, an Americana-laced version of “Breathe” is still bouncing around in my skull.
The show, which if it wasn’t sold out was pretty damn near, judging from the mass of costumed but mostly un-costumed fans that packed themselves into the club, was much more than the bluegrass take on Dark Side of the Moon it was billed as.
