Mustard, mayo and ketchup? Check! Bacon, grilled onions and peppers? Yes, please. Flamin’ Hot Cheetos? Wait, what?
At Top Dogs, named 2026 Best New Food Cart for Redmond, there are big dogs, little dogs, chili dogs and the fan favorite, street dogs, which feature a bacon-wrap grilled dog topped with all the usual condiments, grilled onions and peppers — and the aforementioned Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.
“I slap the bags of Hot Cheetos in the food processor and turn them into dust,” said Kenny Wilson, 57, who owns the operation with his son, Greyson, 10. Top Dogs went live last year and calls home a spot out front of Redmond’s Home Depot. Currently, Top Dogs is under a tent on the south end of the building, but Wilson has purchased a food truck that he’ll move Top Dogs into within a month. It’ll be parked in the Home Depot lot.
Once the new truck is in place, Wilson plans to expand his “lunch” menu to include baked potatoes with all the toppings available on his hot dogs, and then he’ll also open for breakfast. He’s already got his breakfast menu mostly set, and it includes burritos, biscuits and gravy, tater tots smothered with eggs and gravy and, “some kind of breakfast sandwich.”
Currently, he’s open Thursday through Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm. Wilson “supports local” by using only hot dogs from Hill’s Premium Meats in Pendleton. When the truck arrives, he plans to open for breakfast daily.
“We went live with it last year at Music on the Green. That’s where we cut our teeth, and then it just blew up. It’s fantastic,” said Wilson, explaining he was doing pop-ups around town until just signing on for a permanent spot recently at Home Depot. He’s also worked at several concerts and is booking private events.
Top Dogs is 10 years in the making, said Wilson, who also continues to tend bar part-time at Timbers in Redmond.
“I had an opportunity right before (my son) was born to buy a hot-dog cart, and I didn’t do it. Every time I’d go to an event and there’s vendors, I’d kick myself in the butt. Three years ago, this opportunity came up, and I jumped on it,” said Wilson, who surfs the internet and socials, looking for the latest hot-dog crazes that he can put a personal spin on at Top Dogs.
“Why hot dogs?” Wilson asks as he prepares an order for a customer. “Why not hot dogs. I had no idea how much people liked hot dogs until I was setting this up. It’s an American staple.”
