3 Sisters Equine Refuge has launched its 2026 Orphan Foal Fund after rescuing a critically ill newborn colt—now named Rocky Balboa—who has been fighting for his life at Bend Equine Medical Center since May 13. Rocky arrived severely malnourished, dehydrated, resulting in a medical crisis that has already exceeded $10,000 in veterinary costs.
To help cover Rocky’s care and ensure the rescue can continue responding to future orphan foals (an endeavor the organization specializes in), a community fundraiser is scheduled for June 3 from 4–7 PM at Rimrock Taphouse in Redmond, OR.
A Foal Who Refuses to Give Up
Rocky was transported to safety in the backseat of the rescue truck, where he flailed weakly—earning his name after accidentally giving a volunteer a fat lip. But once at the hospital, it became clear his condition was far more serious than anyone realized.
“Rocky has been fighting from the moment we met him,” said Cyndi Davis, Founder of 3 Sisters Equine Refuge. “He had gone without proper nutrition and care for far too long. He’s fighting for his life — and for every orphan foal who will need us next.”
A Community Coming Together
The June 3 event is designed to rally Central Oregon around Rocky and the broader mission of saving orphan foals.
Event Highlights
- 50% of all Black Hat Texas BBQ sales donated
- 50/50 raffle benefiting the Orphan Foal Fund
- Silent auction featuring Rimrock Taphouse gift cards, a family‑size brisket meal from Black Hat Texas BBQ, a tattoo and swag basket from Steadfast Tattoo, and more!
- Live music by Dail Croome
- Signature cocktail: “The Little Fighter”
“This community has always shown up for horses in need,” Davis said. “Rocky’s fight is inspiring people across the country — and we hope his story will help us build a sustainable fund for 2026 and beyond so we never have to say no to an orphan foal.”
