BEAM, a Bend-based nonprofit helping children with disabilities and complex behavioral needs build emotional and academic skills, is calling on the community to rally behind its mission. The organization is just $10,000 away from unlocking a matching grant that will keep its life-changing program in operation.

What began as a small after-school initiative has grown into a vital resource for families whose children struggle to find success in traditional classrooms. BEAM provides trauma-informed, relationship-centered learning where students build confidence, connection, and the tools to manage big feelings safely.

Now, BEAM is ready to growโ€”and needs the communityโ€™s help to get there. The organization is currently seeking:

โ—$10,000 in additional donations by Dec. 30 to qualify for a matching grant and continue serving local families.

โ—A permanent home to expand its services into a full-day program for students who need a different kind of learning environment.

โ—New board members with fundraising, education, or community development expertise.

โ—Community partners and donors who believe in creating spaces where every child belongsโ€”no exceptions.

โ€œEvery child deserves a place where they can learn, feel safe, and belong,โ€ said Executive Director Karen Bures. Weโ€™re so close to reaching our goal, and with this final push, BEAM can keep growing and sustaining the programs that change lives every day. A student shares, โ€œAt the start of BEAM, I always felt like a dark star in a bright sky, and now I feel like a bright star lighting up a dark sky.โ€

Together, we can make sure every child in Central Oregon has a place to belong โ€” no exceptions.
