BEAM, a Bend-based nonprofit helping children with disabilities and complex behavioral needs build emotional and academic skills, is calling on the community to rally behind its mission. The organization is just $10,000 away from unlocking a matching grant that will keep its life-changing program in operation.
What began as a small after-school initiative has grown into a vital resource for families whose children struggle to find success in traditional classrooms. BEAM provides trauma-informed, relationship-centered learning where students build confidence, connection, and the tools to manage big feelings safely.
Now, BEAM is ready to growโand needs the communityโs help to get there. The organization is currently seeking:
โ$10,000 in additional donations by Dec. 30 to qualify for a matching grant and continue serving local families.
โA permanent home to expand its services into a full-day program for students who need a different kind of learning environment.
โNew board members with fundraising, education, or community development expertise.
โCommunity partners and donors who believe in creating spaces where every child belongsโno exceptions.
โEvery child deserves a place where they can learn, feel safe, and belong,โ said Executive Director Karen Bures. Weโre so close to reaching our goal, and with this final push, BEAM can keep growing and sustaining the programs that change lives every day. A student shares, โAt the start of BEAM, I always felt like a dark star in a bright sky, and now I feel like a bright star lighting up a dark sky.โ
Together, we can make sure every child in Central Oregon has a place to belong โ no exceptions.
