The City of Bend is thrilled to announce the ninth annual celebration of Welcoming Week from Sept. 10-19. This annual celebration aims to bring together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong connections and affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places in achieving collective prosperity.
Welcoming Week in Bend first began in 2017. Due to the advocacy of the Latino Community Association, the Bend City Council unanimously supported a resolution for the City to be an active member of the Welcoming America initiative.
This year, the City partnered with the Latino Community Association to organize and facilitate Welcoming Week events and develop an official Welcoming Program that will welcome newcomers to the community throughout the calendar year. The Latino Community Association collaborated with community partners and past Welcoming Week event organizers to re-affirm Welcoming Weekโs focus on the local immigrant and refugee experience.
โThe culture, connection and joy of Welcoming Week make it one of the most vibrant times of the year in our city,โ said Equity and Inclusion Manager Cassandra Kehoe. โWelcoming Week reminds us that neighbors of all backgrounds are welcome and belong in Bend.โ
The City of Bend invites everyone to celebrate Welcoming Week by attending events, supporting local partners, and amplifying the voices of Bendโs immigrant and refugee communities. All events are free and open to the public to attend.
