The City of Redmond is pleased to announce an Urban Forestry Open House, to be held Wednesday, August 5, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., at Redmond City Hall, Room 207. Community members with a passion for trees, urban ecology, and civic planning are especially encouraged to attend, learn about the City’s tree inventory efforts, and help shape the forthcoming Urban Forest Management Plan.
Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with members of the project team at interactive stations, attend a presentation detailing the goals and scope of the Urban Forest Management Plan, review Redmond’s current tree code, and contribute feedback that will directly inform the plan’s development.
Redmond’s tree canopy currently covers approximately 7 percent of the city, and municipal leaders are committed to expanding this coverage to fully realize the environmental, aesthetic, and community benefits that a thriving urban forest provides.
“Trees are an important part of Redmond’s parks, streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces,” said Maria Ramirez, Natural Resource Program Manager. “This project will help us better understand our existing tree canopy, develop a workplan to better manage our city-owned and maintained trees, and plan for a healthy, resilient urban forest that serves the community for years to come.”
