Ellipse Theatre Community is proud to present Venus in Fur, the acclaimed dark comedy by David Ives, running July 16–25, 2026, at Open Space Event Studios.
Directed by Jacque Coleman, Venus in Fur is a witty, seductive, and psychologically charged exploration of power, desire, and the blurred lines between reality and performance. The play follows Thomas Novachek, a playwright and director desperately searching for the perfect actress to star in his adaptation of the classic novel Venus in Furs. As an audition stretches late into the evening, the arrival of the seemingly unrefined Vanda Jordan transforms the process into a captivating battle of wills that challenges assumptions about gender, control, and artistic authority.
The production stars Christy Collins as Vanda and Jayson Berray as Thomas. Together, the two actors navigate the play’s sharp dialogue, shifting dynamics, and unexpected twists in a riveting two-person performance that keeps audiences questioning who truly holds the power.
“Venus in Fur is an intelligent, funny, and deeply compelling piece of theatre,” said director Jacque Coleman. “At its heart, it’s a story about storytelling itself and who gets to shape narratives and how power can shift in an instant. Christy and Jayson bring incredible depth, chemistry, and charisma to these roles.”
Since its Broadway debut, Venus in Fur has earned widespread acclaim for its clever script, provocative themes, and thrilling theatricality. Ellipse Theatre Community’s production invites audiences into an intimate theatrical experience where nothing is quite what it seems.
