Tracy’s Story
55-year-old Tracy Lynn Hendrickson is a Sisters resident living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, or EDS. The diagnosis leads to debilitating pain and the need for frequent surgeries and specialized medical care.
In addition to the immense physical and emotional challenges of the diagnosis, including difficulty even getting accurately diagnosed to begin with, Tracy also faces debilitating medical costs to stay healthy that insurance won’t fully cover.
Among those costs are medical flights and relocations to receive life-changing surgical interventions out of state. Tracy’s specialist teams require not just flights outside of Oregon but also out-of-pocket co-pays that will exceed $11,000.
That’s why Tracy’s community turned to the trusted nonprofit Help Hope Live for medical fundraising. Donations are tax deductible at: https://helphopelive.org/campaign/25259/
“I’m excited and hoping I’ll be able to live the rest of my life with a little less pain,” Tracy explained. “Just knowing there are doctors who believe what I tell them and understand what I’m going through is a relief. Both of my doctors have cried with me.”
“Even accepting her body’s limitations, Hendrickson chooses hope and gratitude,” wrote one interviewer. “If anyone can overcome these immense obstacles, it’s her.”
Unlike a GoFundMe campaign, donations to Help Hope Live are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and all funds raised will be administered by the nonprofit to cover verified medical and related expenses. Help Hope Live verifies medical and financial need for every patient.
Help Hope Live is a national nonprofit that specializes in engaging communities in secure, tax-deductible fundraising campaigns for people who need a transplant or are affected by a catastrophic injury or illness. Since 1983, campaigns organized by Help Hope Live have raised over $193 million to pay patient expenses, assistingmore than 25,000 patient families.
