How does proximity to nature in cities and towns impact people’s health? Inequities in access to nature and how do we avoid creating future inequities? Strategies for building homes within healthy, green communities?

These are some of the questions to be explored at Urban Green Space: A Human Health Necessity, a public forum on Thursday, November 13 at 6 p.m. at OSU Cascades, Ray Hall Atrium.  Internationally renowned research social scientist Dr. Kathleen Wolf, University of Washington School of Environment and Forest Science, is the keynote speaker at this thought-provoking session.

Following Dr. Wolfโ€™s talk, Ian Gray, City of Bend’s newly appointed and first Urban Forester, and Heidi ShurtzLandscape Architect and Manager TEN OVER Studio, will join the conversation about the challenges and opportunities as Bend continues to grow and urbanize.

Organized by non-profit Save Bend Green Space, this is a valuable opportunity to hear from a leader in promoting nature-based health in communities. OSU Cascades — Ray Hall Atrium is located at 1500 SW Chandler Avenue, Bend. Tickets and campus parking are free, but registration at https://forumrsvp.eventbrite.com is required.

After earning her Ph.D. at the University of Michigan, Kathleen Wolf directed a multi-decade research program to investigate human response to outdoor spaces in cities. Her mission is to discover, understand and communicate human behavior and benefits, as people experience nature in cities and towns. Moreover, she is interested in how scientific information can be integrated into local government policy and planning. Dr. Wolf has also worked professionally as a landscape architect and an environmental planner. Committed to science translation and outreach, Dr. Wolf continues to collaborate with international partners and has presented her research by invitation at conferences on all continents except Antarctica.
