The Environmental Center’s Rethink Waste Project coordinates with an amazing group of volunteer fixers to host Repair Cafés every few months. The goal of these events is to extend the life of our stuff through repair, and build community while we’re at it. You can bring things like jewelry, small appliances and electronics, outdoor gear, clothing, and more.

In today’s world, it’s often easier (and sometimes cheaper) to throw broken stuff away and buy new, but repairing and reusing what we already have is so much better for our environment. Repairing with other people saves natural resources, prevents waste, and cultivates community.

We are excited to hold this event at DIYcave. Interested in being a fixer? Fill out the fixer volunteer form here.

For this Repair Café, we will have fixers who focus on: electronics (phones, laptops, etc.), jewelry, sewing, woodwork, and small appliances.

  • All fixing is first come, first serve, and one item at a time. Doors open at 5:30pm and attendees can join the line at that time.
  • Typically the line is longest in the beginning, and the event quiets down the second hour, so we recommend coming a bit later to avoid the line.
  • All fixing is done by volunteers and is never guaranteed, but a majority of items are fixed, and for those not fixed they can still provide helpful guidance.
  • There will be a runner who will make trips to the hardware store if parts are needed. While the event and repairs are free, you will be responsible for the cost of any additional parts. This is unusal, but please bring cash for parts just in case!

Your RSVP for this Free Event is optional, but it helps The Environmental Center plan and keep you updated. It does not guarantee a spot in line for your repairs.
