I have been an avid Source reader for the five years I have lived in Bend, but after reading your WTF article on the Pit Bull ban in Oregon I won't be picking up your paper any longer.
Since you stated that no one in your office owns a Pit Bull I think your statements were incredibly ignorant. I have been a Pit Bull owner for the past 8 years (previously owning primarily cattle dogs) and also a dog groomer in the past, and (I) have not encountered a "kid-face tearing Pit Bull" that your article referred to. My dogs have all been kind and loving and really love kids, as are the other Pit Bulls I have encountered.

I read the WTF? in the latest issue of The Source. As a pitbull (sic) owner, obviously I, or the rest of us RESPONSIBLE owners (sic), am not going to like that write up. As a journalist, what are you doing taking sides? If no one on your staff owns a pitbull (sic), fine, but stick to journalism, and do not take sides.

Because we don't take it personal when people call B.S. on our WTF?!, we're awarding this week's letter prize to Staci Bowen who makes a strong case in favor of the much maligned pit bull. I just wanted to let you at the Source know that I'm very disappointed in the recent WTF column featuring the legislation which would force pit bull owners to have liability insurance. The article claimed that nobody at the Source owned a pit bull, because they didn't want their faces "chewed off." I have to say, I'm ashamed of the Source for spreading even more media misinformation about these dogs.

I just read an article re: Obama with reference to Dr. Sam Vaknin. Whoever wrote this article seems to think the American people are a bunch of sheep who can be led by one person, or persons, without any struggle. This is absolutely not true. What the author seems to forget is that there is a whole segment of middle Americans, like myself, who would not put up with this type of thing. They are usually Christians, or believers, and love their country, America.

I still believe. In a culture gone mad, calling right wrong and wrong right; calling good bad and bad good, I still believe.

Just wanted to say a huge Thank You to whoever found and turned in my skis in the Sunrise parking lot on Sunday. I was distracted and absent minded and left them laying next to my car.

The inimitable editors of Bend's daily have mocked and name-called California supporters of gay marriage with, "A temper tantrum in support of gay rights." The support group had put together what the editors called a "snarky statement," "Day Without a Gay." I can't say it's my favorite, but did it deserve "a temper tantrum" and the "infantile" behavior of what you might expect "from a 3-year-old!"

I have lived in Bend for 10 years. I'm 28 years old and a small part of the Bend acting scene. I don't ski or snowboard or ride bikes recreationally, but I still have a great time here year round. For nine of my years here I have been employed, but a month ago my job ceased to exist.

This week's letter comes from the Viking Mama who reminds - no,
implores - parents to bundle up their youngsters as they themselves
bundle. I like it if for no other reason than she reminds me of me own
mum who never met a scarf she didn't like. Thanks for the letter Viking

It is not yet summer here in Central
Oregon and one might feel that as one goes back inside to get one's
hat. Well, get one for your kid as well!
As a mom with two
small children it aches in my bones when I see these little beings in
thin cotton pants with their bare legs showing as they are hanging in
swings, in BabyBjorns or on the back of baby-carriers. In the old
country they would say that when the mother is cold, the child is
wearing a turtleneck. Well not here, not at the boat park, not at
lighting of the Christmas tree downtown, not at WinterFest.

Is it just me or does it somehow seem patently
unfair for Deschutes County to seek approval of ballot measure 9-70
from all voters when it specifically affects only homeowners on septic
systems in South County? This appears to be an effort to stack the deck
against those owners who could potentially have to replace their septic
systems at substantial cost to themselves.

I think this is much more about the cost and having government rammed down your throat, than it is about water quality.
Let the people who are going to have to pay, one way or the other, decide the matter.
