I didn’t know what exactly to expect on Saturday afternoon when I made my way down to the Occupy Bend rally and march. When I arrived about 10 minutes before the scheduled beginning, there were only about 50 people in the square, holding signs and generally just milling about.

Occupy Bend Rally Hits Downtown on Saturday

The Occupy Bend movement gears up for Saturday’s rally.

I just got back from checking in on the Occupy Bend camp down on Wall Street.
Things are in full swing as the loosely organized group prepares for its rally and march tomorrow, which begins at noon at Brandis Square (corner of Greenwood and Newport avenues) in accordance with other such protests happening around the country.

Former Bend Mayor Donates $800,000 to OSU Cascades

Former Bend mayor Allan Bruckner makes a donation for OSU Cascades’ new building.

More recent transplants might not be as familiar with the name Allan Bruckner, but the former Bend mayor has definitely made an impact in the community over the years.
And now that impact will be even more tangible with Bruckner donating $800,000 to OSU-Cascades to help the campus secure a new building (pictured to the right) on Columbia Street (off of Colorado Avenue) that will house graduate programs.

When Helmet Cams are Awesome

There certainly is a time and a place for helmet cams: this is one of them.

I received the following email from reader Jared Leisek this morning in response to our article “Helmet Cams R Us: Sorry, but no one really wants to see your line,” found in this week’s Snowriders Guide:
“Loved your article yesterday about Helmet Cams. Hope this video passes muster for you — flying under the bridges north of Terrebonne and Smith Rock last weekend.

We’ve fielded a few questions already about just what the hell is going on at 704 Georgia, so we figured we’d go right to the source of all this consternation, our contractor Paul Biskup, to explain why the building seems to be disappearing one brick at a time.
