Oz the Great and Powerful uninspired
What I keep hearing in my head is: Escape from Oz. I had no trouble keeping the title straight before I saw the film. But apparently the mere act of watching—and it was pretty mere—has infected me with a desire to be somewhere else, much like most movies that come out just after the Oscars.โฆ

Mutual Friends
Mutual Friends BOY Nettwerk Records The debut album Mutual Friends from European duo BOY is the musical equivalent of a chick flick. Not the obvious kind of tomfoolery like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, but more like the lighthearted seriousness of The Notebook. OK, I know way too much about these movies.โฆ

Listen Local
I know we write a lot about bluegrass. But it's popular right now for a reason—people like to get rowdy and listen to good stuff while they do. It doesn’t hurt that whiskey is tasty. I mean, no writer is talking about music you can sip vodka to now are they? So, it doesn't hurtโฆ

Little Bites: Worth a Trip South
On the southeast side of Bend, just off Knott Road, is one of the best little gems in town—Farmer Brown’s farm stand. There’s no sign showing the name of the market. The owners don’t advertise the business around town. And the place is only open eight hours a week in winter. I first heard aboutโฆ

Stephen Greenblatt thursday 7 AUTHOR—The Harvard professor and author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book "The Swerve", explains how a couple of ancient Greek and Roman philosophers paved the way for the modern age.
