Merkley “Hurt” by Lieberman’s Disloyalty

We may never know whether Oregon's new senator-elect voted for or against letting renegade Sen. Joe Lieberman keep his key committee chairmanship. But Merkley's office made it clear to Huffington Post blogger Sam Stein that Merkley wasn't happy about it.

Grape (of Wrath) Expectations Downtown

Wandering around downtown Bend the other day, The Eye dropped in at a local business we have been patronizing for the past five years or so and asked whether the local real estate bust and the national Great George W. Bush Depression were affecting business.

Keller Williams Video

Our review of the Keller Williams with Moseley, Droll and Sipe show from last week won’t be in the paper for another few days, but we couldn’t wait any longer to get this to you. Here’s some video of Keller rapping about the importance of getting up early for a day of snowboarding.

Mike Daly: “Why I Lost”

In his wanderings around town Thursday The Eye ran into (soon to be former) Deschutes County Commissioner Mike Daly, who offered some thoughts on why he lost to Democrat Alan Unger on Election Day.

Republicans Over the Edge

The Eye has long suspected that some members of the Republican "base" weren't too tightly wrapped, but the election results seem to have completely unwrapped them.

City Should cut its losses at Juniper Ridge

The financial situation at Juniper has continued to deteriorate since the June 16th City Council meeting on that project. Taxpayers should be extremely concerned with the City's recent announcement that Juniper Ridge is "broke" again, and the Council is seeking, among other things, a loan of $200,000.00 from the general fund, which is also strained.โ€ฆ

Cluckers On the Prowl: Chickens yearn back to their dinosaur roots

Those of you who keep chickens and other livestock know what joy there is in talking to them. (Yes, chickens are "livestock," even though the sheriff doesn't think so when a stray dog kills one of mine.)

"Good morning, chickies," is my usual greeting. Then I ask them, "How many eggs are you going toโ€ฆ

Dead Space: Electronic Arts makes a strong showing in its first jump

Like you never fantasized about eye-lasering an alien. As a kid, the movie Alien gave me the creeps, the slowly building tension and tight scenes made the sci-fi/horror movie a classic. Game developer Electronic Arts has been able to recapture that sick death at every corner feeling with Dead Space. This action horror game hasโ€ฆ

Weekend At Bernie’s: Soul Men swan song has its moments

A temporary resurrection. Soul Men is Bernie Mac's last movie; that alone lends his portrayal of an over-the-hill backup soul singer an eerie undertone. Coupled with the passing of Isaac Hayes (playing himself), this comedy could prove a real tearjerker for some and there is a fitting tribute done via clips of interviews and outtakesโ€ฆ

Our Picks for the week of 11/12-11/19

Drift thursday 13 Summer-run steelhead are spread throughout the lower river and most local rivers and lakes are still producing good trout, but it's time to put the fly rod down - at least for a few hours as the latest fish porn feature rolls into town in the form of Drift, an hour-long flyโ€ฆ

Quick Bites: Riverside Market Dinners

In Search of Bend’s Best Burritos

Packing a bowl at La ParrillaWith winter fast approaching, our bodies increasingly yearn to stock up on calories, while our pockets-depleted from the cost of season passes and gear upgrades-are urging us to cut back. To reconcile this disagreement between stomach and wallet, the wise turn to the burrito. Providing most of a day's caloriesโ€ฆ

The Monster UGB Expansion

Bend’s Manifest DestinyThe Bend real estate market is in the crapper. What would you do about it? Well, how about putting 9,000 more acres of developable land into the local inventory by bringing it inside the city's Urban Growth Boundary? Sound a little nuts to you? Yeah, us too. But that's what the Bend Planningโ€ฆ

Where’s The Music?

I was very disappointed in the Veteran's Day Parade this past Saturday in Bend. It may be one of the biggest in Oregon, but it was lacking in the music department! Just three bands for the entire parade? Where are the local high school bands? Where are the Armed Forces bands? Where are some localโ€ฆ

Save Boys and Girls Club

This is a shout out to all the businesses and business owners in Bend. As many of you are now aware, the Bend Boys and Girls Club will be suspending operation due to lack of funding.

(A recent) edition of The Bulletin noted a comment from CEO Marvin Lein, "BMC goes to great care to ensure that access to care is available to everyone in our community regardless of ability to pay."
