This is a shout out to all the businesses and business owners in Bend. As many of you are now aware, the Bend Boys and Girls Club will be suspending operation due to lack of funding. They are hoping to re-open by December 1. Working parents in this community DEPEND on the Boys and Girls Club. It’s a place our kids go after school, where they are safe and cared for. They need donations, plain and simple, so that all the parents who work for you, who work for this town, who work in this town, can continue to do so. We can’t let the Bend branch succumb to the same fate as the Madras and Prineville Boys and Girls Club.
Bend is a great town; let’s support this organization that does so much for us.
Thank You.

Times are tough. Businesses are closing daily around here. People need to realize that most small business owners are barely covering their costs every month, even in a good economy. Please, don’t try and guilt local business people into giving donations when they don’t know what is going to happen in the next few months/years. The reason that donations are down is because business owners are fighting just to stay afloat in this economy. Having said that, it is a good charity. Just lay off the guilt.
I too as well as other small business owners are struggling just to keep people employed. We are feeling guilted as well and think that the club should have managed its money a little better. I would not donate money to an organization that only gives parents a one day notice that they are closing. That’s terrible business practice on their part.
As the populace elects more and more tax and spend Democtats those of us who normally contribute to charities will see the money we usually have been able to donate go to state and federal taxes instead of charities.
Thank you for supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs. They are so important for our community and it is important for people to recognize how they contribute to our community, support our youth, and make Central Oregon a better place to live. I also agree that we can’t guilt the business owners but everyone should try and give what they can.
“”I would not donate money to an organization that only gives parents a one day notice that they are closing. That’s terrible business practice on their part.””
I hope all the facts are known about what happened before such accusations are made.
The community needs this club, parents need this club, our KIDS need this club and we need to support it in what ever capacity we can; $$, volunteering, work labor!!
To a guest said: I do not support the borrow and spend Republicans. I have a certain amount of money I can spend. If the government takes more, it means I have less to spend. I have a clue and I know I cannot run my personal finances or business finances the way the government stupidly does.
Well, Jed. It must be nice to be in the segment of the population that has an adjusted annual income above $200,000. I’m sorry your marginal tax rate is going to rise from 33% to 39%, the same as it was under President Clinton. Incidently, the highest marginal tax rate during the Reagan administration was 50%. And we all know how much business suffered during those eight years.
My small business doesn’t generate nearly that kind of revenue, thus my taxes will stay the same as they are now (I may even get a bit of a break). So, I guess I can still afford to support local charities.
m137payne, don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Lets see if the promises remain promises. Especially since you’ll save money and the country will go into debt more.
To the point, though. Boys and girls clubs are definitely an asset to our community. But, the reality of the economy is that people have quite a lot less to give. So, restructuring how they run their non profit might be a necessity now. People who have a passion for this program will continue to give as much as they can, however, it will be less.
The issue is that there are a lot of non-profits out there all with great causes. People are bombarded almost daily with the ‘give to our cause’ line. Each person has to purpose with their own heart who they feel is the best to give to that alligns with their own priorities. Noone can tell you how to give. Each person must decide themselves.
If you think your taxes and fees are going to remain the same you are truly living in a fools paradise!!
