Snowrider’s Guide

This winter season the Northwest is in line for an above-average snowfall, at least according to AccuWeather.com’s “Expert Long-Range Forecaster” Paul Pastelok. That’s good news—if you believe in such things. As for us, well, we don’t trust a forecast that’s more than a couple days down the road, but we will take September’s record-breaking snowsโ€ฆ

Ugly Turtles Not Welcome?

A clunky and monsterous looking snapping turtle was recently found in Prineville Reservoir – and was quickly killed; sort of like a door man keeping out the dorky and uncools. As reported and circulating on Yahoo News, the turtle not only is fu-ugly, it is an invasive species – and could disrupt the ecosystem. Seeโ€ฆ

So Incredibly Sad: Yet Another School Shooting

In Nevada this morning, there was another school shooting. What is incredibly numbing is that school shootings have started to become so “routine” that the story was pushed from the lead news position in less than an hour. Two staff members were killed, and several students injured before the teen killed himself.

Low Water Leaves Scores of Fish Dead on Upper Deschutes

Brought to You by the Letter “B”

The marketing campaign—as it is—for Blue Pine’s Tuesday night’s special underplays the offering: “Grab a shot of bourbon, a burger AND beer for only $15!,” says the low-key announcement on the restaurant-bar’s website. Yes, We Can!

Beer in a can ain’t what it used to be, namely: cheap, tinny-tasting, fizzy and yellow. These days, canned beer is craft beer—and vice versa. Magical Thinking

A frequent criticism of mumblecore films is that nothing really happens in them, which has always struck me as a weak line of reasoning. Life doesn’t have a plot (spoiler!) and it’s still pretty interesting most of the time. But Lynn Shelton's new film Touchy Feely tweaks the formula a bit: Nothing really happens, exceptโ€ฆ
