Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to Sisters for Quilt Week July 7-10 and the annual Outdoor Quilt Show on July 11. The Sisters gallery store, Makin’ it Local which showcases paintings, photography, fine crafts, jewelry, ceramics and other artwork, is hosting four artist receptions and unveiling new artwork created especially for Quilt Week. Makin’ it Local is extending the celebration beyond quilts by showcasing artists whose work reflects the same appreciation for color, pattern, craftsmanship and storytelling.
The festivities, which are free and open to the public, kick off Tuesday, July 7 with Jennifer O’Reilly. She’s an acrylic painter known for her whimsical style and flowing interpretations of Oregon landscapes and the natural world. Her work features vivid colors and images representing the Pacific Northwest. Some of her new fine art prints will be on display during the event.
On Wednesday, July 8, Susan Porteous will be on hand to talk about her quilt-inspired letterpress prints. The artist owns Green Bird Press, which specializes in a modem, minimalist approach to design.
July 9 celebrates the reverse-enameled painted fused glass art of Cheryl Chapman. She uses finely powdered glass enamels mixed with water or oil-based mediums to paint onto glass, which are then fired multiple times. Her designs are influenced by nature and whimsy. Chapman will unveil three new fine art prints, which were created specifically for Quilt Show Week, at Makin’ it Local.
Then on Friday, July 10, six-time Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show poster artist, Kathy Deggendorfer, will unveil five new fine art prints she created for Quilt Show Week. Her work features with layered color, pattern and movement. She created posters for the Quilt Show in 2007, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2019 and 2025. Her art has also been used in quilting fabric collections.

The afternoon receptions are an opportunity to mingle with the artists and enjoy complimentary wine and light hors d’oeuvres.
“Quilt Week is about bringing people together through creativity,” Makin’ it Local Owner Myrna Dow said in a news release. “Whether you’ve traveled across the country for Quilt Week or you call Central Oregon home, these receptions offer a chance to meet remarkable Oregon artists, hear the stories behind their work, and discover artwork that celebrates the beauty and spirit of our state. We hope our gallery becomes a gathering place where locals and visitors connect through art, conversation, and community.”

The Sisters Quilt Show, which features more than 1,000 quilts hung outside businesses, has been going strong for more than half a century, attracting more than 10,000 tourists worldwide. Part of its success comes from the sense of shared interests and community. This year the event will shine a spotlight on many of the quilting guilds from around Oregon.
