With the Fourth of July holiday on Saturday this year, and coinciding with the nation’s 250th birthday, there’s no shortage of celebrations around Central Oregon.

Bend

The Discovery West neighborhood west of Northwest Crossing in Bend is celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday on Friday, July 3, with food vendors, square dancing lessons, games and a live DJ. The evening ends with 100 drones lighting up the sky in a patriotic display around 9:45pm.

The traditional pet parade will do a lap through downtown Bend the morning of July 4. It’s free to participate. Just show up at the Harmon Park staging area with your furry friends dressed in red, white and blue. No cats or rabbits are allowed.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars in Bend is holding a patriotic birthday bash celebrating the nation’s 250th. Festivities kick off at 2pm, July 4, with a BBQ rib contest. Live music from The Cutmen begins at 5pm. Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs and stay to watch the fireworks.
