Jon Wayne & The Pain

Let's play that fun Our Picks game in which we guess the style of a band based on its name. OK, so take a stab at this Minneapolis outfit... Americana? Bluegrass? Wrong! This band plays ska, funk and reggae. And they do a good job at that. $5/advance at Bendticket.com, $7/door. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co.

NW Hip-hop Showcase

sunday 9

We had a chance to chat with Seattle's Champagne Champagne for this week's Sound section, but you should also check out the sounds of Mad Rad, who will open. Also on the bill are the always excellent Cloaked Characters and Joanna Lee. Coolest hip-hop ever. $8/advance at Bendticket.com. All ages. 8pm. Old Mill Music Lounge, 360 SW Powerhouse Drive.

Steep Canyon Rangers

monday 10

The Sisters Folk Festival Winter Concert opens up with this performance by the Steep Canyon Rangers, one of bluegrass music's premier acts and one that's become increasingly popular as of late. You may have seen them backing up the hilarious yet oddly talented Steve Martin, who takes his banjo prowess out on the road with Steep Canyon. If you're a fan of pickin' and grinnin', this should be on your not-to-be-missed list. $15/adults, $10/students. Available at sistersfolkfestival.org. 8pm. Sisters High School, 1700 E. McKinney Butte Rd.

BCS National Championship

monday 10

It's finally here after a month of waiting. The Oregon Ducks will take the field down in Arizona to battle those jerks from Auburn for the national championship. If you're not lucky enough to head down there, check out a couple of the places in town that are hosting parties. The Tower Theatre is hosting a Tailgate at the Tower. Entry is $25 and includes a buffet from Baldy's BBQ. McMenamins Old St. Francis School will have the game on the big screen as will the Pine Theater out in Prineville. Also, pretty much every television set in every bar will be have it on, too, so don't worry. Kickoff is slated for 5:30pm.

Hood to Coast

tuesday 11

If you live in Oregon, you've probably heard someone tell a story about his or her experiences running the Hood to Coast relay race, which begins on Mount Hood and, as the name implies, ends on the Oregon coast. This documentary follows four teams, including a team of seasoned runners, a group dealing with the death of a family member, a collection of coworkers with little running experience and another team with a member who nearly died on at the previous year's race. While the Oregon scenery is nice to take in on the big screen, where this film truly shines is in its masterful editing and fluid telling of the four stories. Hood to Coast lets outsiders in on an intriguing world that is this storied relay race, and for people who've had a chance to participate, it's a chance to relive the grueling yet wildly fun event. Check it out at this one-night showing. 8:30pm. Old Mill Stadium 16, 680 SW Powerhouse Dr.

JazzBros!

thursday 13

Jazz is making a nice little comeback here in Bend, as evidenced in part by this free show at McMenamins featuring some of Bend's best players, including Warren Zaiger (bass), Andy Armer (keys) & Georges Bouhey (drums). 7pm-10pm. McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St.
