The Dry Canyon Community Art Center is flourishing six months after opening on SW Sixth Street in downtown Redmond. The gallery has hosted three exhibitions showcasing local artists. The featured art display changes monthly and items sold in the gift gallery rotate on a regular basis. Art educators teach classes in rooms at the back of the gallery in a variety of mediums including watercolor, glass, ceramics and jewelry making. This summer, Dry Canyon Arts Association is launching a new Veterans Art program that will offer art classes with scholarships to local veterans.
In June, the Dry Canyon Arts Association will begin a two-month celebration of Independence Day with a show entitled โAmerica the Beautiful.โ Members created art that expresses what that topic means to them. It will be a wide-ranging and celebratory exhibit with many eclectic interpretations of the theme, Marketing Director Jan Tracy wrote in a news release.
The art center is also expanding. Itโll soon take possession of 1,500 square feet of space in the back of the building thatโs currently being used as office space for a nonprofit. The area will be renovated to create more classroom and workshop space. The Association also plans to hire an executive director to oversee the art center and ensure itโll be sustainable over time.
The gallery is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays.
