Looking to score oodles of candy, maybe do a little shopping and enjoy a family-friendly, fun fall day? There’ll be candy galore at Bend shopping areas on Saturday, Oct. 31, aka Halloween, including in the downtown Bend business core, the Old Mill District and at the Bend Factory Stores.

In downtown Bend, from 3-6pm, look for a purple “Treat Trail Stop” flyer in a business’ window or otherwise prominently displayed to find out whether it’s handing out treats. Currently, more than 50 downtown businesses are participating (list below). Meanwhile, trick-or-treaters can score candy at Bend Factory Stores businesses, also from 3-6pm.

The Old Mill District transforms into a “hauntingly joyful playground with trick-or-treating, a pet costume contest, live music, an aerial-arts performance and a block party, for which Powerhouse Drive from Revolvr to Lush will be closed from 11am-6pm.

At 4pm, the Humane Society of Central Oregon is putting on a Howl-o-ween pet costume contest in the main Old Mill plaza between Stacks Dinner and Delicatessen and Anthony’s, while musicians from the School of Rock will perform from 4-5:30pm outside Saxon’s Fine Jewelry. Kids can paint a leather keychain shaped like a bat or ghoul from 2-6pm at Will Leather Goods and the Lady Bird Cultural Society is offering happy-hour specials, a pumpkin-patch photo backdrop and gift-card giveaways from 2-9pm. Also, Greg’s Grill is having a Spooktacular Halloween Party from 8pm-midnight with a live DJ.

And don’t forget to check out the always-cool Bend Witches Paddle at 3pm on the Deschutes River. There’ll be a mass of witches, warlocks and ghouls on paddleboards and in kayaks and canoes making their way from Riverbend Park, through the Old Mill District and beyond the Flag Bridge. Even some “familiars” (aka, doggies) will ride along. At the Riverbend Park put in, MountainStar Family Relief Nursery will collect donations of diapers, baby wipes and food for families it serves.
