After a full afternoon of recreating on a recent trip to Hood River, we were basking in the late-day sun in my buddy’s driveway, drinking a PBR and plotting our next move. The local among us suggested Everybody’s Brewing (across the river in White Salmon, Wash.), both for their delicious beer and bitchin’ deck. Sold on the deck idea, but unable to corral our sizeable crew, we settled for something closer to downtown Hood River – Double Mountain Brewery. You’ve no doubt noticed their beers on tap here in town at places like Brother Jon’s and Summit Saloon. Keep an eye out for the IRA (India Red Ale) on tap handles throughout town. It’s one of their most popular beers at a hoppy, but not overly so, 65 IBUs (6.5 percent ABV). However, the beer we can’t consume enough of around here, especially come the summer months, is Double Mountain’s Vaporizer. It’s a dry-hopped pale with a clean, slightly sharp taste and just enough hops to remind you that you’re still in the Pacific Northwest (6 percent ABV, 50 IBU). So good, it made us not give a damn we were missing out on that deck. Bonus – it’s also on tap in Bend.
